To finish off the story of my trip I took at Christmas …..

We detoured on the way home via Auckland, NZ

Although the weather was not good, we made a little trip across the harbour to Devonport

And guess what greeted us as we got off the short ferry ride ??????

Devonport is a very pretty little town

Unfortunately the day we went was a public holiday in New Zealand, but we did get a very lovely breakfast and I was totally surprised when I spotted this ……

Very, very lovely and the lady who was working there was very helpful

Unfortunately I had no way of carrying yarn around with me for the day

Btw - Did anyone else watch the show last night "Then The Wind Changed"?

It was about Black Saturday and quite a few tears were shed by me

But I was delighted to spot some of the women from Strathewen creating a knitting project for the children - giant chickens!!!

They commented about how helpful the knitting and time together were

Queen Anne Lace Scarf

This was the first version of this scarf I saw at Frualbertssons Blog.
BTW have a look around her blog.  She works some exquisite crochet.

She has since worked it a few times, but that first time it played with my head.

So pretty, feminine, lacy.

But I'm sure way too hard for me to do!!

Look at the work involved.

But it would not leave my head and I started to see a few other versions.

So I went looking on Ravelry.

After much difficulty (for some reason it does not come up on the search) and lots of linking I found it!!!!  Here is the link

Not another WIP!!!

Aren't I a Good Girl!!!

So on Monday I printed the pattern

I went stash-diving and came up with something I have been wanting to use for a while

So I lined it all up

And left it there

And worked on the blanket

So then on Tuesday morning

what did I see

Bethel had worked her own version of the pattern

And a very pretty version too!!!!

So what's a girl to do????

(Ok no comments about not being a girl any more ☺ )

Of course I did what had to be done

So I picked up the pattern and the yarn and the hook yesterday (Tuesday) afternoon

and started this

and by early Tuesday night

It was Done!!!!!

Oh my

What was I worried about

Love the pattern

Love the yarn

Love the scarf

This works for me

I don't have a real need for a scarf

But a fashion statement

To show-off my work

Oh this works beautifully

And BTW the scarf is unblocked as I loved the frilly-ness of it that way and did not want to lose that

I will definitely be re-working this lovely pattern

Hi everyone

I have been talking about WARNING but not showing you anything, so I will now, but it is not a happy ending.

Ok, so it will be the full version to keep you entertained.

I wandered in to my LYS and browsed and pondered on their yarn. I have had a project in my mind for a long while.

Firstly it had to cover my shoulders for when it gets a bit cool, something interesting, not to challenging - crocheted or knitted - not to sure. There are some beautiful knitting patterns for lacy shawls which I have yearned for. Only problem was I was interested in a quick fix, something that would not take too long to make - so I was leaning towards crochet.

Patterns have been rolling around in my head, but it would all depend on the wool. It needed to be at least 8ply as the fingers are just not up to the finer wool, it would take too long.

So back to the LYS and after doing the rounds I spotted half way down the wall some wool. Autumn colours which I was leaning towards and as I leant down to pull it out ..........

A glimmer of colour caught my eye ...............

It did not whisper to me ................

It was SCREAMING at me .......................

I HAD TO HAVE IT ..............

I knew that immediately ..............

So I checked the price - which was the amount I pay for 200g wool and it was only 50g!!!!!

Oh oh!!!!!

But it was so soft

Another thing is the colours, they are not what I would normally wear, but they are what I yearn to wear.  More the inner, hidden me

It was not Australian merino either!!!! Another HUGE Oh oh for me.

But I started to clutch at straws - the brand is from Wales.

My g-g-g-grandfather, George ROSKELL, was the first Mayor of Flintshire, Wales (1836) and my husbands g-g-grandfather, George Joseph THOMAS (b1856) is from Newport, Monmouthshire, Wales. So I am supporting family connections

I could not help myself and yes, the straw was teeny, tiny

So I started on a very simple triangle shawl

I love the wool and I love the colours

But ..

I started to have doubts the third ball in and then I tried it on when I finished the fourth ball ........

Triangle Shawls do not sit properly on me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh no, I love the wool so much, so it must be frogged and I will think of something else - maybe a rectangular shawl or wide scarf


Thank goodness hubby bought some flowers home to cheer me up

More frogging may be coming - WATCH Out

Books & Slippers

Hi everyone

Sorry, no show on the "WARNING" project.  Things have slowed down a bit and with the weather being so warm (high 30's/high 90's) and humidity being about 90% or so, its way too sticky to deal with - even with wool.

A few of you were lucky enough to pick up some books for Christmas, either as gifts or just because you deserve it - of course  (HUGE grin).  There were a few I was very interested in but had only seen online.  Now with books and yarn, I am the sort of person who needs to touch, look, feel, read a bit etc - I'm sure you have the idea.

So I went to our 2 local bookstores, 1 of which is an international store, and looked and looked and asked - but no, nothing what I was really after, some vague may-be's if I have-to, but nothing that said "take me home now, I'm what you need".  So I very disappointedly gave-up and resigned myself to buying online with looking - very, very, sad face.

I decided to wander into my LYS/LCS, Hornsby Wool & Craft Nook.  The shop is small and caters for most craft, so there is only a little bit of everything.  They had about 20 books for various crafts and I spotted it!!!!!!!

Something I had been eyeing off online out of curiosity

Something that teased my interest - longing to look inside

So I grabbed it (just in case someone else might want it)

Flipped a couple of pages

And yes, it had enough in there that I was looking for

I was interested in the fact that there were different shapes for motifs, not just squares.  So you will see something during the year of these motifs.

And then just after Xmas, they had stalls in the mall, one of which had calenders etc, which was fund-raising for the local hospital.  Now I had been keeping an eye-out for a particular one.

And look what I spotted, and it was only $10.00  - Woo Hoo

Mixed patterns, some I don't think I will ever get around too - but you just never know  :-)

More Slippers With Soul!!!!!

I made and sent 8 pairs last year and I wish to at least equal this, preferably increase it.  This is with Knit 4 Charities group, which are planning on sending 500 pairs for Nursing Homes, Hospitals for elderly etc.  They are only about 100 pairs short so far.  I am rewarding myself - I can't do personal crochet projects until I completed 1 pair and then I can work a little on "my" projects.  So far I have made 4 pairs - so half way.
