Am I crazy ……

A bit of background first
It is mid-summer here
Well by the calender anyway
Our normal temps at this time of year are somewhere between 30-40C
But so far this summer, mid 20’s have been the norm
Now, I know that for a lot of you in the Northern Hemisphere this is very warm
But for us, it’s not cold, but it’s not warm either
But the humidity is super-high!!!

Old saying in Australia ….. if it’s not a drought, it’s a flood
While we are not flooding (me, personally) there has been a lot of rain this summer

So back to the crazy!
Rolling on the floor laughing
I had a urge to make ….
I had a need to make …..
I really wanted to make …..

A BEANIE!!!!!

But that’s plain crazy at this time of year
So what should I do?
?
?
?
?
?
?
I’m sure I heard you ALL yell
MAKE IT!!!
So I did
Button Tab Beanie
Button Tab Hat – check my Ravelry page for more info
Yarn is Cleckheaton Paintbox
BTW pity they are taking some of their operation of shore and some Australians losing their jobs, makes me re-think my support
Mods – Instead of casting off 10st, I joined in the round and knit the first 10 and last 10 stitches together.  I also worked 15cm before decrease, so that I could pull the beanie down over the ears if needed.
Next time I would leave a long tail before casting on to sew the button on with, just means it is anchored a bit more

Love it!!

N.B. – This post is written via Windows Live Writer.  See how this works.  Fingers crossed

  2. I think knitting beanies, mittens and socks as well as baby clothes at this time of year is very sensible - first of all, it means being prepared for the winter and secondly, small projects are much nice to knit in hot weather (if we ever get some!)

  3. In this kind of weather, who could blame you for thinking it was beanie season!

I thought that last summer was bad enough, but this takes the cake!

    cheers

  4. I don't think you're crazy for making beanies at this time of year !! I do them all the time as they're perfect for the charities I support. Yours looks lovely but I do tend to agree with you about Cleckheaton and all the other ACS yarns but I guess there's not a lot we can do about it as they produce most of our reasonably priced yarns. I think its awful how they're sending some of the production offshore and so many have lost their jobs.

  5. knitting beanies now sounds like sense to me. You'll have a good collection by Winter. It is a sticky business in this humidity though. Talcum powder on the hands helps.

  6. I don't think you're crazy at all. At least a beanie is small enough that it wont keep you too warm :) It's been awfully muggy here too. I'm not sure what's worse the hot weather or the humidity :-/

  7. It's just so crazy that we are here in snow and you are basking in the middle of summer. Who cares, make all the summer beanies you want. You've seen me in the middle of summer surrounded by wool, right?

  9. Tell me about it! I'm in Sydney and am wondering what's happened to summer this year! I mean, I'm glad it's rarely getting into the 30's, but it's really hard to decide what to wear when it's raining with stupidly high humidity! I don't think I'd ever worn a scarf in summer before this year.

So I wanted to let you know that I have arrived here via your gorgeous baby girl cardigan on ravelry. It's adorable but unfortunately I have a son. I do, however, have a 3 yr old niece who could serve as a model should you still wish to create the cardigan for a toddler/child size. let me know if so :)

Also, I apologise if I have double-posted. I'm using an iPhone and was having issues commenting via the mobile site.

And lastly, I'd like to wish you a happy Australia Day from one Aussie knitter to another!

    Cheers
    Mandee. (mandeemoo on ravelry)
